Chef Gaetano Valente’s story begins in Napoli, Italy—a city where food is not just sustenance, but tradition, family, and identity.

Growing up, Gaetano spent his earliest years in his father’s restaurant, surrounded by the aromas, energy, and discipline of a true Italian kitchen. His father, a remarkable chef in his own right, became his first mentor. But it was his grandmother who left the deepest impression—guiding his hands as he learned to make fresh, homemade pasta and preparing the rich, slow-simmered ragù that brought their family together every Sunday.

Those moments—filled with warmth, laughter, and the unmistakable scent of authentic Italian cooking—sparked something lasting. Gaetano knew he wanted to carry forward what his family had created. He pursued formal culinary training in his hometown, determined to refine his craft while honoring his roots.

In 1984, he began his professional journey as a chef at Ristorante San Gennaro in Napoli. Just a few years later, in late 1987, he took a bold step—moving to the United States to follow a dream of sharing authentic Italian cuisine with a new audience.

Gaetano quickly made his mark as Chef de Cuisine at Martini Restaurant in Martinsville, New Jersey, where he led menu creation, daily specials, kitchen operations, and staff development. His dedication to traditional Italian flavors earned recognition in 1991 when Courier News featured his work in an article titled “Chef’s Secret,” highlighting the authentic recipes he brought to the menu.

In 1994, Gaetano opened Ciao Restaurant Pizzeria in Metuchen, New Jersey, marking the beginning of his journey as both chef and owner. Over the years, he expanded his experience across renowned venues, including banquet and hotel operations throughout New Jersey, where he refined his ability to execute exceptional dining experiences at scale.

In 2007, alongside his best friend, he launched Buffet Europa in North Brunswick—offering a diverse range of European and American cuisine. The restaurant gained wide recognition, earning the title of “Best Small Buffet” in 2009.

With more than three decades of culinary experience, Chef Gaetano Valente has remained rooted in one simple philosophy: food should be authentic, heartfelt, and meant to bring people together.

Today, through his culinary creations, he brings the flavors of Italy—and the traditions of his family—directly to your table. Whether an intimate gathering or a large celebration, his goal is always the same: to create unforgettable meals that feel like home.
